Sunshine Coast Official Aims for New Wreck to Dive

MONDAY, 26 NOVEMBER 2007

Sunshine Coast announced its plan of reinventing the soon-to-be decommissioned HMAS Tobruk to further enhance HMAS Brisbane Conservation Park as a first class diving destination.

The HMAS Brisbane warship was sunk using explosive charges in just 2 minutes and 10 seconds two years ago, under 28 meters of water off Mooloolaba.

It took five years for Federal Member Peter Slipper to obtain the ex-HMAS Brisbane. Now, the Sunshine Coast officials have been talking to Australian Minister for Defense Brendan Nelson to start a campaign for the security of the HMAS Tobruk for the Marine Park. The HMAS Tobruk is a Landing Ship Heavy.
