Researchers Look into the Depths of Atlantic Ocean
FRIDAY, 26 OCTOBER 2007
A survey research was organized to look at unexplored depths of the Atlantic Ocean. The research, which focused more on deep water corals, was participated by researchers from Fisheries and Oceans Canada and Memorial University of Newfoundland.
Some researchers onboard the Canadian Coast Guard Ship Hudson used an underwater robot known as ROPOS (Remotely Operated Platform for Ocean Science) to survey deep water animal life on the coasts of Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. The researchers were able to collect samples and images at 2500meter deep, and about 3,000 high quality photographs. They also transmitted live underwater video footage to other researchers in various places.
