New York State Offers Scuba Diving Trails

The state of New York offers two of the best freshwater scuba diving trails in the United States. These are the Dive the Seaway Trail and the Underwater Blueway Trail.

New York is the first state to connect freshwater locations into a trail. Doug McNeese, Scuba Schools International president, said that New York could be a model for other states in the country. Dive the Seaway Trail runs through St. Lawrence River, Lake Ontario, Niagara River, and Lake Erie. The Underwater Blueway Trail, on the other hand, runs through Lake George, Lake Erie, Lake Ontario, and Seneca Lake.

Joe Zarzynski, a professional underwater archaeologist and New York State Divers Association member, described New York as a maritime state. "New York's inland and coastal waters carried the development of our state ... little is done to inform the public about that fact."
