Explosive Growth - California Great White Sharks

With divers seeking Great White shark encounters in far away places like South Africa, the US dive industry has been surprised at the meteoric rise of the newest White Shark site at Isla Guadalupe, Mexico.

Greg Grivetto, owner of Horizon Charters, has never seen anything like this. “In the past 27 years of taking divers into the waters of California and Mexico this kind of overwhelming interest in any single dive site is extremely rare. What we’re seeing is the public’s desire for real adventure while learning about these magnificent sharks.”

Worldwide interest in shark diving adventures has increased dramatically but it is the apex predator sites such as Isla Guadalupe that are growing the fastest. In the past five years departures from San Diego have increased 400% with San Diego’s easy access for divers fueling the demand. Today this has become a 2.8 million dollar industry.

“Our company is well situated to meet this demand,” says Patric Douglas, CEO of Shark Diver. “Once we had an idea of how fast this site was growing, the next step for us was to look for the vessels with the most experience operating here to offer to our divers. The result has been the San Diego Shark Diver Fleet.”
