Underwater Cameras - Care & Maintenance
Prolong the durability of your Underwater Camera by taking care of it properly. Deliberate neglect can take its toll on the internal functions of your equipment. The following are a few but essential tips on how to properly maintain your camera:
- Clean your Underwater Camera after it gets in contact with sea water. Sea water is a corrosive substance, so this may damage your camera. Salt crystals may form on your camera in less than 10 minutes after you go out of the water. Wash your equipment with fresh water and then soak for half an hour. Stir up the camera to wring any salt residues.
- Never use a hose when cleaning your Underwater Camera with water. This will push salt crystals into the cracks of your equipment. Place it on a clean towel to dry. Remove excess water on your camera by using a dry cloth. Just spare the lenses. These need photographic lens cloth or lens tissue.
- Keep your Underwater Camera sealed properly. Keep it away from harmful elements such as sun, dirt, and mud. Before going underwater, check whether or not the housing system or the camera itself is securely sealed. Also, make sure that there are no loose screws on your camera and strobe.
- Avoid dropping or bumping your camera, as some of its parts may break, affecting the camera’s performance. When jumping into the water, do not hold your camera in front of you to avoid the adverse effects of impact. Ask someone to give it to you once you are in the water.
- Consult the user manual of your Underwater Camera. There might be special maintenance guidelines you need to consider. Also, never lay down your camera facing up to prevent water or any liquid from seeping into the interior.
- Only use fresh batteries every time you do Underwater Photography. Bring spare batteries. You may also want to bring tool kit and O-rings.
If you do not want your Underwater Camera to conk out unexpectedly on your next Underwater Photography trip, make sure to take good care of it. The above-mentioned essential guidelines do not require much effort, so spare some of your time to give your Underwater Camera the upkeep and attention it deserves.
