what incidents in diving really upsets you? like, what pushes u to start to panic? & what do you do to overcome it?

i hate being on the water surface in gear, then breathing from my reg.. when i dive down, iam gud. but the moment i rise up and get my face out from the water, i start to feel so so nervous. i can float w/o my gear for quite a long time and i can do all those diving skills. its just when i am either about to go down for a dive and get back after, i start to panic.

ok, my panic point? hmm. i was nver a fan of snakes and then i unfortunately encountered one underwater during our lake dive few months ago. i started to breathe harder and faster than normal. and there, the panic monster!

another thing that once caused me to panic and be scared is when my buddy disappeared! bec if i take someone as my buddy when diving, i take very serious responsibility for that. and get really scared when couldnt find anyone beside me anymore.

The only time i remember beginning to panic was on my first night dive. we went on the reef, 75m away from the sea wall. it was fine, but then i got scared when i lost sight of our instructor. i cud not see any guys around. when i got back to the surface, i realized how far i've gone from the shore. well, what i did was the separation drill, stayed as calm as i could and had a safety stop.

and another thing adeline, i experience the same thing as u do, breathe harder while on the surface but doing good underwater. well, lets just hope that mooooore diving will help us overcome dis!

oh god! this happened to me too. my first encounter with a snake and it had to be underwater where you seem to be far more helpless than in land. hated the experience. i panicked, hyperventilated and all!
