try using a mask leak sealant. this will stop the leaks whether they are caused by facial hair, skin wrinkles, facial lines, etc.. although it will only last up to 6 or more dives then you need to re-apply it. dont worry though, because it will not break down the silicon of your mask.

Derek, may i know if anything else has changed with your other gear? Like your hood? Because sometimes a thinner or a thicker hood can give a very surprising effect on the circumference of your head, and of course, to the fitting of your mask too. You're hood is worth checking at, you know.. & how about the hood encroaching on the mask w/ a face seal? Since some are meant to be trimmed & they cannot work effectively off the rack because the usual result is a downward pressure & trouble on the mask.... Last on the hood issue is the venting.. Is your hood filling up with air? That can increase damage to the performance of your mask..
To consider the other factors, well.. remember that most mask fit problems we solved by loosening its strap than tightening it.. Applying a seal all over your laugh lines will do nothing but make it a lot worse.
And lastly, try more masks! You'll soon find the solution.

i have made thousands of dives & to tell you, i never found a diving mask that seals perfectly. every now & then, istill have to clear it up & it's no big deal. and the fogging is probably because of the age of the mask..
and i think it's right to consider the changes w/ your other gear.. your reg can change the position of your mouth & mayB age may have turned your laughing lines into something different. and if it's fogging, it can probably be solved by a soft scrub.. use a teflon-safe sponge, scrub the mask, do it over & over until the fogging subsides..

wow! thanks for all the help! perhaps, i'll just keep on trying more diving masks until iam able to resolve the issue and thanks for the fogging tip too! since i also encounter that prob sometimes!!

fogging problem?? it's possible that u have unconsciously changed your exhaling pattern & maybe you are now doing it through your nose! because as you exhale through your nose, small openings may happen at the bottom of your mask.. so, that could xplain it!

try lowering or raising the mask strap behind your head. this can be a simple solution but it never fails to work for me.. because if my mask leaks, the only reason is that i have positioned its strap too low or too high at the back of my head.

For most divers, their moustache can be really big deals.. but if you try enough masks, then you can eventually find the one wid the exact skirt for your face. if your smile lines are your problems, there are masks wid skirts that drop more downward than d others & they can cover your cheekbones more..
anyway, if worse comes to worst, just learn to tolerate the inch of water that goes inside your mask.. that's waht i did for some years..before i found the diving masks that fit me well...'

I've had the same problem & just recently, the only masks that fit well in my face are the genesis masks. Maybe it has something to do with the shape at the area below our nose pockets. These ones have tighter radius than the rest.
You may want to try it soon!

Good idea. The only mask that has never given me a problem is a full face mask. I've been through several and I know the reason is from facial features or smiling and such. I will give a genesis a try. Thanks.

Good idea, why don't u try using a full face diving mask instead so u can breathe comfortably through ur nose & mouth? It may seem a bit more expensive, yes.. but the benefits you'l get can totally outweigh the price anyway. It will give you more breathing security & it's totally more reliable than the traditional diving masks..

I will definitely vouch for that. Just ensure you use your primary as your octo, and have another mask tucked away just in case. It takes a bit of adjusting to a FFM, but is really worth it. I'm getting a drinking device put in mine. The only disadvantage to a FFM is a very dry mouth, and you just cannot take the reg out and rinse your mouth like a regular set up.
