i haven't gone diving there yet. but i was able to talk to this DM who already took his classes there (but in the north shore). he said that when they take their open water dives there, he only brings 2 divers at a time 'cause if people goes an arm's length away, he can no longer see them! yes, they have poor visibility there, making the area unsafe for diving. however, things may be different in the south shore. i think you'll have better visibility there!

I have not dove there. But if ocean diving with a buddy, I tether myself with a 6 foot small rope so we don't get separated if vis is that bad.

I have to long island for hundreds of times and have gone diving too! but most of the time, me and my buddies go scuba diving to the west side. it's always fun to dive there with the fishes and the lobsters! also recommended fo wreck diving! antique bottles are all over the place! but the visibility though can sometimes really be bad on any given day

i can consider that because i also heard the same comment from a friend.. that NC is such a great great dive site, especially perfect for wreck diving.. so you really think it's an ideal spot for a diving vacation?

I don't know that I would make a special trip from England, but we do have some great diving. How is it across the pond?

you'll get better visibility when you dive in the central sound area. but the temperature is 45F! But anyway, you have to learn and be comfortable being a solo diver. Because when going there for scuba divng vacations, you cannot rely on you diving buddy all the tme because of the so-called limited visibility.
