CPR

As mentioned before, underwater is an environment which is very alien to the human body and this will have effects in the physiological aspect of the diver. This is why Diving Safety should be taken into consideration. One can prevent or avoid such Diving Health Risks and conditions by proper training, planning, good equipment maintenance, and following guidelines. However, there may be instances wherein giving First Aid is necessary. This is why you should also have proper training on how to perform emergency First Aid such as Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).

In this section, take a look at the importance of having knowledge in giving CPR and learn how it is done. Just remember that you must not rely solely on this information. This can never be a substitute for an adequate training course on First Aid. You need training and knowledge about emergency first aid and there are things to be taken into consideration before you can perform CPR on a victim.

Learn CPR - You can do it >>>

These are the basics of CPR:

Make sure to call the paramedics, 911 or your country's medical emergency telephone number before starting CPR. The operator will probably be able to assist you in making the decision if you should attempt CPR and if so how to perform CPR.
Tilt the head of the victim back with the chin facing up and listen for breathing. If the victim is not breathing normally, pinch the nose and cover the victim's mouth with yours and blow untill you see the chest rise. Give 2 breaths of 2 seconds each.
If the victim is still not breathing normally, coughing or moving, begin Chest Compressions. Push down on the chest right between the nipples. Repeat this movement 15 times at a rate of 100 times per minute.
Continue giving the victim 2-second breaths and 15 chest compressions untill help arrives. If other people are available then you could use a second person to either give the breaths or the chest compressions. In this way you can take turns and rest in between.

Remember: Make sure that you have adequate training in giving First Aid before you can perform CPR. Otherwise, the situation can get worse.

Take a CPR Course Now!
We recommend everybody to take a CPR course and get an official certificate. Reading the description of CPR above is not enough! Applying for a CPR course should be easy through your personal physician or through your country's medical services.
